DON’T: Overcoming Self-Doubt: You Are Enough

Stop Thinking That You Are Not Enough

One of the most destructive lies you can be told is that you are not enough. But an even more destructive lie is the one you tell yourself when you believe it.

Determination is the birthplace of success, consistency is its fuel, and the willingness to show up, learn, and adjust nurtures its growth. Everything else is an addition.

Inspiring yourself to enroll in the school of success is the foundation of your readiness to add value and contribute wherever you find yourself. Once you begin showing up daily, your willingness to contribute may challenge those who were on the platform before you. Your growth may make some people uncomfortable, creating friction when you refuse to settle for less.

One thing you must understand: being invited does not always mean being valued. Being called to dinner does not guarantee a place at the table. Being invited to a meeting does not mean your contribution will be welcomed. Being counted among the team does not always mean being included.

When your effort is trivialized, your mistakes are amplified, your contribution is overlooked, but your results cannot be denied; when you are validated externally but placed at the back internally, it is time to develop a resilient mentality.

A mentality that lets you learn and grow, even when you are not recognized. A mentality that encourages you to develop, even when you are not validated. A mentality that enables you to build capacity, even when you are not given a chance.

This mentality is preparation for where you are going. It reminds you that your present circumstances do not define your potential and that you must remain ready for the opportunities ahead.

Not being recognized where you are does not mean you are not a team player or that you are lazy. Your effort being overlooked does not mean you are not contributing significantly to the team’s accomplishments. Sometimes, when you change teams, reposition yourself, or step out of your own Egypt, you discover that reward is not a function of effort alone. Position matters.

Nothing is perfect, and every environment has its challenges. But positioning matters. Average effort in the right position can appear better than excellent effort in the wrong position. When your best is continually overlooked, you may begin to doubt your strengths, question your abilities, and believe you are not enough.

That is the lie they want you to believe. But it is up to you whether you believe it, accept it, and embrace it. I challenge you to reject it. That is not who you are; it is what they want you to believe about yourself.

Before you conclude that something is wrong with you, examine where you are positioned. Your value not being recognized where you are does not mean you have no value. Keep developing your abilities and preparing for opportunities where people can see and value your contribution.

If you accept the message that you are not enough, your confidence may weaken, your skills may deteriorate, and your best may remain unused. When you are in the wrong place, keep growing. When you are around people who consistently overlook your value, keep showing up with discipline, keep learning, and keep building capacity. The purpose is not to prove yourself to them. It is to prepare yourself for where you are going.

Consider a bottle of water. Its price can change from a grocery store to a gym, an airport, or a club. The water has not changed, but the setting has. In the same way, the value people place on your contribution can differ from one environment to another.

My call to you is simple: learn strength in the wrong place. Learn how not to lead from the wrong people. Learn consistency when the timing is unfavorable. But through it all, remember that effort matters, and proper positioning helps that effort produce its reward.

Keep building for where you are going. Stop thinking that you are not enough.

…be inspired, live an abundant life, and help others.
